SAT Adds Lactation Stations Just in Time for Mother's Day!

As a breastfeeding mom, I love hearing about stories like this. I support all moms who want to nurse their children in public, and I have myself done that on many occasions. But it is nice to have a place that you and your child can go to, to nurse or pump in private. Somewhere where you can sit and relax and put your things down. In an airport especially, where things are hectic, people running around trying to catch flights. Sometimes it’s so busy there is nowhere to sit. But now if you are ever at the San Antonio International Airport (SAT) you will find it has added two additional “lactation stations” post security, in each terminal. Nursing Mothers can locate the new Lactation Stations by following way finding signage marked with the international breast feeding symbol.

“Just in time for the busy summer travel season, SAT is providing a much-desired amenity for traveling families,” says Tom Jones, San Antonio Aviation Director, “Mothers will find the lactation station a clean, calm and comfortable place to nurse and care for their babies.”

SAT currently has a pre-security nursing room located in Terminal A but decided to add the lactation stations post security to accommodate more passengers.  The stations are freestanding, ADA compliant kiosks with seating and a power-supply to plug in a pump or an entertainment device with additional space for luggage or a stroller. The stations give nursing mothers a safe, clean, functional, private and relaxing space to pump or nurse when they are away from home or work.

Did you know O’Hare and Midway Airports also have Mother’s Rooms? Have you visited any other airports or locations with private lactation areas? Do you think these are a great benefit to nursing moms?
